mock up for current paintings

This is just a bit of a mock up for my current set of work part one. The supports are hardboard cut into hexagon shapes to mimic the shapes surrounding bees. The hexagon shape also repeats throughout the images in the form of eye patterns in the background overlapping subtle hints of flowers to create an atmospheric space. The predominate focus is of the cropped bee itself in the foreground. Taken from images of bee specimens in a controlled lab at Canterbury Museum. Each image is taken in steps with the aid of an eletron micropic camera and compessing these step creates the high resolution images that I paint from. The backgrounds are painted more gesturaly than in this mock up and will be feather brushed as time moves on. The painting in the foreground however is quite heavily painted and will have a lot of grunty marks by the use of a platte knife.

Fly

First of many, the beginnings of a new series of studies into plants and insects.
